Crafting your own magick: how to write a spell

Unlock the power within you by learning to write spells that truly resonate with your desires and intentions. This guide will help you craft effective and personal magical workings, whether you're new to the craft or looking to deepen your practice.

The journey of intention: defining your desire

Every potent spell begins with a clear and focused intention. This initial step is crucial for beginners and experienced practitioners alike. Take time to sit with your thoughts and feelings, truly understanding what you wish to manifest. Is it love, protection, prosperity, or healing? The clearer your intention, the more directed and powerful your spell will be. Avoid vague desires and instead, articulate precisely what you want to achieve. This foundation sets the stage for a truly effective magical working. For further guidance on setting intentions, explore our page on how to cast a spell.

Gathering your tools: correspondences and timing

Once your intention is crystal clear, it's time to choose your correspondences. These are the elements that amplify your spell's energy, such as herbs, colors, crystals, and planetary influences. For example, pink candles and rose quartz are often used for love spells, while green herbs and aventurine might be chosen for prosperity. Consider the best magickal timing for your spell, aligning with moon phases, planetary days, or seasons to enhance its potency. New moons are ideal for new beginnings, and full moons for manifestation. Explore our correspondences page for a wealth of information to guide your choices.

Crafting the incantation: words of power

The words you choose for your spell are incredibly powerful. An incantation can be a rhyming verse, a simple affirmation, or a heartfelt prayer. The most effective incantations are those that come from your heart and reflect your true intention. Use present tense and positive language, as if your desire has already manifested. For example, instead of saying "I wish for money," try "Abundance flows freely to me." Write your incantation down, speak it aloud, and feel its energy. Remember, your words are a direct channel for your will. You might also want to explore the Theban or witches' alphabet for adding an extra layer of mystique to your spell.

The personal touch: making your spell unique

What makes our approach special is the emphasis on personal connection and intuition. While traditional correspondences offer valuable guidance, your personal symbols and experiences hold unique power. Perhaps a specific scent evokes a feeling of protection, or a particular song brings you joy. Incorporate these personal elements into your spell to make it uniquely yours and incredibly potent. Trust your intuition throughout the process; it is your most powerful magical tool. Remember, the most effective spells are those that truly resonate with your spirit. How to write your own spell...Here's how I write a spell.

._._._._._._._._._._._._.
You have a situation in your life and you feel that mundane means may need a little magickal help.
But you decide you wish to use your own spell.

Here is a lesson on how to write your own spell.

Step one:
Prepare your supplies and yourself: Start with paper, pen, pencils, markers or crayons and your favorite magickal books, and in this day and age, the internet can be a powerful research tool.

You might also create a small altar on your workspace, or you might just group together materials designed to inspire your creative forces.
Materials like crystals, incense, figurines, herbs, candles and music
Maybe even a cup of coffee or tea.

This helps put you in the frame of mind for magickal work.

Step Two: Decide What kind of spell you need to write.
Do you need a prosperity spell, or do you want a spell to bring confidence. Perhaps a love spell is what you long for or maybe you need a spell to send back ill will.

Once you've made the decision, write down what kind of spell you need.

For the sake of this lesson, we will use a spell I've posted before so you can see how I wrote it.

Alright here we go...
Let's pretend that we feel like ill will is being purposely aimed at us. What is the best way for us to deal with it?

Who do we think is casting magick against us?

We decide we do not know, so we need to cast a wide net as it were.

What are we going to do about it?

Now is time to open our books and use our research tools.

There is a huge amount of information. It's easy to become overwhelmed. And you might come across a spell that sounds like it will be perfect!

If you do, fantastic! But if you still want to write your own, continue to decide what your going to do about the problem for which you intend to write the spell.

After looking at different spell types, we decide a reflection spell will cast the widest net.

So at the top of our paper we write
REFLECTION SPELL TO REPEL ILL WILL(type of spell)

And we have decided what kind of spell we are going to write.

Now we want to write our intention. Maybe we want to send back to the sender the bad MoJo sent to us! Yea, that sounds like a good idea! So that would be our intent.
So far we've got...

REFLECTION SPELL TO REPEL ILL WILL(type of spell)
SEND BACK THE ILL WILL SENT TOWARD US (intent)

Now we have to decide how we are going to do it. Again we look through our research materials.

There are lots of defensive spells that we like. Let's look through the spells in the books and select the things we like.
For this spell, we like that we are sending their ill will back to them.(1) We like the use of candles(2)We like the idea of binding(3)We just have to decide upon a way to work binding into our spell.
This is where our own creativity comes into play and we decide to make this a binding reflective spell by using needle and thread.

Now we're moving right along!

REFLECTION SPELL TO REPEL ILL WILL(type of spell)
SEND BACK THE ILL WILL SEND TOWARD US (intent)
BINDING(active action)
REFLECTION OF ILL WILL(passive action)

Now that you've decided the type of spell, your intent, and your actions it's time for your next step!

Step Three: Gather Your Tools

What tools will you need. Remember you are the ultimate tool! Your tools just help you focus your intent and power.

What will we need for this spell?
We decide to use:
•A mirror...to reflect the ill will.
•A piece of paper...to write our needs and intent upon.
•A black marker or writing pen...to do our writing with. Black ink- for repelling and banishing negative energy
•Tape-For taping paper to back of mirror
•A black candle- repelling and banishing negative energy
•A white candle-protection, new beginning, peace
•A needle- to bind the paper(sew)
•Black sewing thread
•Hammer and nails(to hang mirror)
{Use what you have around the house whenever you can. Don't purchase something is you don't have to.)

Step Four: Ground and Center

Step Five: Write Your Spell!

You'll notice that most spells are written in verse.
Let's write our spell. Lace your intent with words that rhyme...but remember they don't have to rhyme.

First you write your spell on the piece of paper with either the black marker of black writing pen.
Here is an example...
"With this spell I reject
The ill will I do suspect.

I bind you to you the ill will you cast,
It no longer attacks me, it's a thing of the past.

With this spell I bind you now
To your own ill will, I cast this how,

I no longer fear you, your ill will so bold.
Your ill will shall no longer take hold!

I bind your ill will to you now.
May you feel it bind to you, you woe is now!

With these stitches I bind you to the ill will you cast at me.

My power is protection, stronger than thee!"

"I REJECT YOUR POWER, IT IS NOTHING NOW!"

Step Seven: Work the Spell!
You must say your spell in a firm voice. Mean business.
Write and say something like...

"With this spell I reject
The ill will I do suspect.

I bind you to your ill will cast,
It no longer attacks me, it's a thing of the past.

With this spell I bind you how
To your own ill will, I cast this now

I no longer fear you, your ill will so bold.
Your ill will shall no longer take hold!

I bind your ill will to you now.
May you feel it bind to you, you woe is now!

With these stitches I bind you to the ill will you cast at me.

My power is protection, stronger than thee!"

"I REJECT YOUR POWER, IT IS NOTHINGTO ME!!!!"

Now fold the paper in half and stich it closed with any stitch you prefer.

After you have bind stitched the paper, tape it to the back of the mirror.

Lean the mirror against the wall. Light both candles and set then in front of the mirror.

Say something like...

"With this black candle I cast protection for me and mine.

With this white candle I cast light where ill will thrives!"

Let the candles burn down. Then hang the mirror where it reflects a window or a door.

This is so it can reflect the ill will to the sender.

Step Eight: Evaluate
After working the spell,
see if things feel different after time. See if it feels like it worked. Sometimes you wind up altering a spell after the first use so it will work better. Sometimes you wind up trashing a spell and starting over.

ALWAYS BELIEVE IN YOUR POWER!!!!! With experience comes wisdom. Always be open minded enough to learn from your mistakes. Before you know it you'll be in the creative mindset to whip an excellent spell out regularly and with confidence!

HAPPY SPELL WRITING!

Brightest Blessings,
Stephanie
