Creating your own besom...

Here is how I created my own besom.

It was really rather easy.

First I headed to the woods. At the time they were my woods so no trespassing was involved.😁

  A storm had recently come through and I looked for damaged wood. I found a young wild cherry tree standing dead. It was very thin, just right to fit in my hand. It was very straight, dispite the lovely whorls where vines had squeezed into the bark and cambium layers. I gave her a good pull and out of the ground she came.

I returned home with my treasure and with my boline, removed the bark.

Then it was time to seal the wood.  I took a few days, but I used a natural method to seal and protect the wax. I brushed the wood with melted bees wax. As it cooled, it created a thick layer of wax on the wood.

Next I used a hair dryer set on high to melt the wax and heat the wood, driving the wax into the pores of the wood...there by preserving and sealing the wood.

I collected tall wild grasses to creat the besom's brush. I also used some dried ornaments grasses I had. I lashed the grass to the handle tightly with some twine.

And she was finished.

With some imagination you can make some of your own tools.
